Background of the Study
Performance appraisal systems are integral to human resource management, providing organizations with the tools to assess employee performance, identify areas for improvement, and set future goals (Afolabi & Olatunji, 2024). In the context of Nigerian Breweries, a leading beverage manufacturer, performance appraisals serve not only as a tool for assessing individual performance but also as a motivational tool to encourage employees to strive for better results. Effective performance appraisal systems are designed to offer feedback, recognize achievements, and identify areas for professional development.
In Benue State, where Nigerian Breweries operates, the success of performance appraisal systems in motivating employees is vital for maintaining high production standards and ensuring the company's competitiveness in the beverage industry. However, there is limited research on how performance appraisal systems influence employee motivation within Nigerian Breweries, particularly in Benue State. This study seeks to investigate the effect of these appraisal systems on employee motivation, providing insights for improving HR practices within the company.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the widespread use of performance appraisal systems in Nigerian Breweries, the impact of these systems on employee motivation remains unclear. While performance appraisals are designed to motivate employees by recognizing good performance and providing constructive feedback, it is unknown whether these systems are actually achieving this goal in the Benue State branch. This study aims to explore the relationship between performance appraisal systems and employee motivation in Nigerian Breweries.
